1696 King William III Silver Shilling. Made from Sterling Silver (0.025 fine) and weighing in at 6.0g, this shilling was issued during the Great Recoinage of 1696-1698 to replace hammered currency. The obverse depicts the draped bust of King William III while the reverse displays the crowned cruciform shields around a central Nassau lion with the date 1697 split on either side of the top crown.
